On March 17, 2025, Shawn and I completed our SSI Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx 40%) certification — unlocking the ability to dive with longer no-decompression limits and reduced nitrogen exposure.
While this was a classroom-based course with no dives required, it marked a major step in our dive progression. We covered the physiology of oxygen exposure, dive planning with Nitrox, and the use of an oxygen analyzer to confirm mix percentages before a dive.
This specialty not only boosts safety — it’s also a cornerstone for deeper dives and liveaboard trips where back-to-back diving is common. It’s now our default gas mix whenever possible.
The training was provided again by Christina Burenga through Dive World Scuba – North. We completed the online learning, practiced analyzing tanks, and reviewed dive computer settings for Nitrox profiles.
With EANx in our toolkit, we’re even better equipped for our upcoming dive trip to Cozumel and our newly earned Deep Diver cert. Bring on the bottom time!
