Day 4: Scandal in the Kitchen

Day four of furlough. I awoke at 6:30 a.m. to find Mittens holding an impromptu press conference from atop the laundry basket. He claimed victory in the “Birdgate” investigation, citing “no credible evidence of foreign avian interference.” The committee adjourned after he batted a dryer sheet off the podium.

Breakfast was, an Einstein Bagel with Cream Cheese. I ate it stoically while reading my own handwriting on yesterday’s grocery list, which now qualifies as federal documentation. Tabby filed her first report this morning, live from the kitchen counter, uninvited. According to her, “someone” (me) left the cabinet open, endangering national security and feline morale. She’s demanded a full inquiry and additional treats for her silence. Scandal has officially arrived in the Living Room Republic.

Meanwhile, Remington patrolled the perimeter, barking at the wind and successfully deterring at least one plastic bag from entering sovereign territory. Her approval ratings remain high. I spent the afternoon refining my XSplit scenes again. Added a new transition called “Budget Fade.” It cuts out halfway, symbolic and efficient. Then I opened my DAW to record a riff for Shutdown Blues (Gallbladder Mix), but Mittens sat on the keyboard and produced something avant-garde. Might be a hit.

Morale check: cautiously optimistic. The household government may be fracturing, but the music still plays, the the bagels still arrive and the oatmeal still cooks, and the stream overlays have never looked better. Congress, still nothing from you.

I’ve mostly been dropping songs as I finish them, just one at a time.

This next release is a little different. Dirt, Love & Freedom is 12 of those songs gathered into one album. Same music, same heart, just all in one place.
